the signs, the patterns, the motifs, painted on walls, ceilings, plates, vases, pots, woven

into carpets and clothes, poured into metal and glass, arranged into mosaics and floor tiles, drawn to the manuscripts
by the ancient romans and greeks, etruscans and mycenaeans, people who passed by, those who moved here and those who moved away, people from orient, from north, from occident, from south
by those who carried their signs with them

passing years, decades, centuries, milleniums drag the matter within its currents
swallow it, wash it and sometimes something floats to the surface of that gray blur
eye catches a symbol
or two
a repeat
across from the findings from here and there from one side and another there might be a line that everywhere is the same
a line of black rust
a blur of iron liquer

textiles do not stand the test of time, and most of what is known about antique textiles has been discovered on other materials, such as painted on ceramics or engraved in stone. In addition, different materials seem to reflect each other's stories in turn, and the line between one and another seems to blur. The change is imperceptible – one material becomes another over an immense amount of time, and the trace of human culture on it is shorter than a moment.

the cloth hanging is still damp from floating in the gray blur
the cloth hanging is the blur

Ingrid Helena Pajo is a textile artist from Estonia, who – having in mind the importance of tactile knowledge – is exploring the roots of weaving, spinning and dyeing fabrics. Found materials are an integral part of this discovery, emphasising the journey; the collecting; the process; the bricolage.
